Dr. Mark Key
Dr. Mark Key feels blessed to be the Senior Pastor of Mount Tabor, a position he has had since July 2012. Even though the Bishop appointed him here, he believes God called him to this church. This is his sixth appointment as a pastor in the Western N.C. Conference. He is the lead pastor for the Traditional service and the Higher Ground service and works with the administrative committees in the church. He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 1981 and his Doctorate of Ministry degree in congregational development from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 2001. He is married to Joy and they have two adult children who are married.
Rev. Bob Richardson
Rev. Bob Richardson is the Assistant Pastor of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. He has lived everywhere from Pompano Beach, Florida to Portland, Oregon, but considers North Carolina home. He is husband to Susan, dad to Lulu, a twenty plus years friend of Bill W, and a member of the Mount Tabor family since 2005.
Bob is a graduate of Multnomah University in Portland, where he earned degrees in Bible, Theology, and Pastoral Ministries. In his spare time Bob enjoys working out, listening to Bruce Springsteen, and marveling at the promise of Matthew 19:26.
Director, Student Ministries
Andy Tuttle is the Director of Student Ministries. He and his wife Kim have four children—Tyler, Taylor, Caleb, and Christian. He also has two black lab mix dogs, Rascal and Oreo. Andy is a class of 2000 graduate of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Marketing. During his time in college, Andy felt the call to build the church and not a business. His heart for teens connects to his call to go into ministry. Andy brings a multitude of experience in youth ministry(over 20 years) and a heart for serving youth, the church, and the community. Andy has an interest in small group ministry and helping youth feel connected with and integrated into the church. A believer in local missions, Andy also strives to serve the local community through nursing home visits and service to the homeless. Andy also shares the vision of growing leaders within the church’s youth program. He loves the lake, to travel with friends and family, and play games.
Director, Children's Ministries
Marcey Davis joined the Mount Tabor staff in June 2016 as the Director of Children’s Ministries. She first started working for the church and children as the paid nursery worker and a Vacation Bible School leader in high school. Following earning her degree from Virginia Tech, she pursued a career in banking and financial management. A nursery volunteer and Sunday School teacher at her previous churches, it wasn’t until she joined Mount Tabor in 2006 that she began to feel God’s call on her life. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that “people plan their path but the Lord secures their steps.” These steps have led Marcey to her current position where she is humbled to serve the children of Mount Tabor, “TaborKids” and their families. Marcey is blessed with a supportive husband and three daughters.
Coordinator of Spiritual Growth
& Community Engagement
Gray Handwerk serves as the Coordinator of Spiritual Growth and Community Engagement. She has been on staff since February 2017. Having moved around the country several times, Gray believes God has given her a heart for those seeking connection, and a desire to see people connect to God and to each other. As our congregation journeys together to Gather, Grow and Go, Gray seeks to serve as an on-ramp for those ready for their next step in membership, spiritual growth, and service to the community. In addition, Gray has a passion for contemporary worship and music, and enjoys volunteering as a lead worshiper in the Ignite service. Gray and her husband, Phil, are the proud parents of three sons: Noah, Eli and Sam.
Sheri Nebinger has served as the church hostess since September 2013. She coordinates the meals, and maintains food inventory supplies. She organizes and prepares the weekly Wednesday night fellowship meal, Tabor Table with a huge smile on her face! She is married and has 2 boys. She has a passion for cooking, and is thankful to be able to use her gifts at Mount Tabor.
Higher Ground Coordinator
Kim Harvey is the Higher Ground Coordinator. She has been a member of Mount Tabor for years and has served as a volunteer in various ministry areas prior to coming on staff in January 2014. Besides Higher Ground, she has a passion for Bible Study, Drama, Prayer and Women's Ministries. Kim and her husband, Seth, have 2 children, Kara and Sam.
Ignite Worship Coordinator
Jim Annas is the Ignite Worship Coordinator. Jim Annas is a lifelong native of Winston Salem. He graduated R J Reynolds High School before attending Wake Forest and later transferring and graduating from UNC Chapel Hill. Jim has been an official member of Mt Tabor UMC since 1981, joining after he married his high school sweetheart Susan. A music lover all his life, he is a self-taught guitar player and dabbles with the banjo and mandolin. His love for Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) and Worship music started around 2000 after a 24-year absence from playing his guitar. He participated as a member of the band in the original “praise and worship” service. Over time, that service morphed and grew into the current day Ignite service. He is in his third year of leadership in Ignite. Jim loves the contemporary worship style and enjoys leading at the Ignite Service and serving in the Ignite community.
Steve Dyson, Facilities Manager, is a native North Carolinian and life-long United Methodist. Hired at MTUMC in May 2016, Steve knows God's hand led him to this position. He is dedicated to helping the congregation members be good stewards of the resources God has blessed the church with in the mission to make disciples for the transformation of the world. Steve is married to the very lovely Michele and they are the proud parents of Hunter, a growing teenager who loves to hunt and fish with his father.
Senior Church Administrator
Libby Craven, Senior Church Administrator, came to Mount Tabor UMC in August 2014. A graduate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she also had experience in corporate retail management and newspaper publishing before God opened the door for her to work within the United Methodist connectional structure almost 30 years ago. “I am truly blessed to serve in administration ministry at Mount Tabor UMC. Every encounter is a chance to help connect and strengthen people in their walk with God.” Libby has two adult children and she is a certified Professional Administrator of the United Methodist Connectional Structure.
Cathy Culver is our Financial Adminstrator and was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. She is a BIG UT fan-her blood runs big orange! She has a MA from UTK in Educational Administration and Supervision. She began at Mount Tabor in July 2013 and she loves it here! She ensures that all contributions to the Mount Tabor ministries are used to further the work of those ministries, enabling all to honor the mission to gather joyfully, grow spiritually and go faithfully. Cathy is married to her high school sweetheart, Kenny. They have a son, Keat ; daughter-in-law, Jess; granddaughters, Ella and Blakely; and daughter, Layken. They have a dog, Bogey and grand dogs-Gavin, Kona and Pacey.
Director, Weekday Preschool
Kim Tharington is the Director of Mount Tabor United Methodist Preschool. She enjoys greeting the children each morning, visiting the classrooms, and hearing the staff share all the wonderful stories about their students.. She has a B.A. in Human Development and Learning with an Emphasis in Early Childhood Education. She has been fortunate to work in her field for over 35 years. “Our goal at Mount Tabor Preschool is to create the best possible learning environment for our preschoolers. As a staff we strive to nurture each child to help them grow academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. We meet regularly to develop new and exciting curriculum. We all feel blessed to be a part of such an amazing ministry!”
Asst. Director, Weekday Preschool
Emily Richardson has served with Mount Tabor UMC Preschool since 2008. She started as a 4 year old teacher then moved into the Assistant Director position in 2009. Emily graduated with a Bachelors degree in Child Development from East Carolina University and came to Mount Tabor UMC with over 17 years experience meeting the developmental needs of children.
Asst. Director, Afterschool Care
Jodi Pratt is the Assistant Director of the Mount Tabor Afterschool Ministry. She loves meeting and learning about new people. Jodi enjoys working with children, helping them to discover their inner strength and self-confidence. With a background in accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Utah, she is also prepared to help parents work through any situation. She is married with two daughters. Jodi and her family have been attending Mount Tabor UMC since they moved to Winston-Salem in 2006.
